Prague, the capital of the central/east European country of Czech Republic happens to be the home town of the world renowned modern writer Franz Kafka who paid a fitting tribute to his birth city when he remarked that Prague possessed invisible claws that held him back from migrating.

The rich history of the city dates back to the Celtic period of 400 B.C. and the election of the Bohemian prince Charles IV as Holy Roman Emperor marked the zenith of the golden age of Prague in 1346.
Prague has a scarred and war ravaged history, being mauled and traumatized first by the Germans during WORLD WAR II and then reeling under Soviet communist subjugation for 5 decades until 1989.
With the collapse of the Berlin wall the erstwhile Czechoslovakia earned its independence through the VELVET REVOLUTION and broke up into two parts/countries –the Czech Republic and Slovak republic as an aftermath of the VELVET DIVORCE.
Prague emerged as the capital of the former country and later on consolidated its importance in the continent by joining the European Union in May 2004.
From the nineties onwards, Prague has become a buzzing hub of Eastern European Revival and Reconstruction and in its heydays of the nineties, often evoked parallels with Paris of the twenties.
